Hello! I hope you are all doing well. My boys and I just harvested about 8 potatoes today, even though some could have grown bigger. We needed the space to transplant our corn which is about 6 inches tall already. In my raised bed, I transplanted 2 different types of tomatoes, cucumbers, baby water melon, tons of green beans, some lettuce, and eggplant. Unfortunately, my beets did not transplant well and after the heat wave a few of them died. Some of my green bean leaves are browning and don’t look healthy. My lettuce and snap peas are doing well still, but I’ll remove them in a month or so when I need the space for the other plants. I bought some herbs and they are doing well mixed in the raised bed too. I’m excited to grow some flowers by seed like borage, yarrow, lemon drop, zinnia, chamomile and butterfly weed. The wildflower seeds have sprouted and are looking good, with some tiny flowers starting to bloom. We have 3 mysterious squash type plants growing also. I think they are pumpkins… Even though it’s challenging, I have been really trying to stay up on succession planting with lettuce and green beans. It’s been a fun experience and I feel so much more confident since the class. My neighbor has even converted his parkway into a garden!

What type of stake do you recommend for tomatoes grown in a raised bed? I have a few wood stakes that are about 4-5 ft high. Thanks!

In California Natives
Could you please post a list of good CA natives and other good pollinator plants that would be appropriate for around the garden and in more open spaces around the yard? Thank you !
